PROGRAM GOAL
This program provides a unique opportunity for non-physician members of the oncology clinical care team to review emerging advances in therapies and symptom management strategies, discuss the impact of science and technology on their profession, and determine how to optimize patient care by integrating their various disciplines.

- Identify and implement new trends in the treatment of pain in the cancer patient.
- Explore challenging issues facing non-clinician professionals in the oncology field.
- Define legal and ethical issues related to treating cancer patients.
- Discuss supportive care guidelines for cancer patient treatment.
- Identify and implement newer management strategies to enhance patient care.
- Examine newly approved products for cancer treatment and their application.

CME hours for the Tuesday through Friday sessions, November 4-7 may be submitted to credentialing organizations for acceptance of conversion to CE. Contemporary Forums is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This activity is approved for 6.6 contact hours.

Physician Assistants
Application is pending for submission to the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Case Managers
Case Managers may obtain CM credits by submitting the ANCC credit to their respective organization.

- Evaluate the potential benefits of the emerging developments in cancer therapy.
- Employ new concepts, agents and regimens in cancer patient management with understanding of the risk/benefit correlation.
- Inform patients of improved treatment options and the benefits and availability of enrollment in clinical trials.
- Discuss current ongoing clinical studies and FDA approval status for various cytotoxic, hormonal and molecular therapies.
- Describe the results and clinical implications of recent trials and select optimal evidence-based therapies.
- Learn how to utilize all resources to insure medication safety.
- List side effects of cytotoxic, hormonal and molecular therapies and select tests routinely recommended for patient monitoring.
- Apply pharmacodynamic and pharmacogenomic principles to cancer therapies.
- Optimally implement the role of the health system pharmacist.
- Recognize the difference in treatment regiments and side effects related to various tumor types.
ACCREDITATION
The NYS Council of Health-System Pharmacists is approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education. These programs* are approved for a total of 44.25 contact hours or 0.4425 CEU’s ). Statements of Continuing Pharmaceutical Education Credit are mailed to participants within 30 days of receipt of the completed evaluation forms. A completed evaluation form is required to obtain continuing pharmaceutical education credit.
