A non-profit organization, the Foundation supports selected laboratory and clinical research projects at major New York metropolitan medical centers, symposia for the profession, and publishes a series of free informative booklets for the profession and the public. Until his death in 2004, the pioneering oncologist Ezra M. Greenspan, M.D. was Chairman and Medical Director. Noted oncologist and investigator Franco M. Muggia, M.D. was then appointed and fulfills this leadership role.
In the dark ages of cancer-patient management, when oncology was an infant specialty, Dr. Greenspan founded The Chemotherapy Foundation to seek and provide support for innovative researchers whose work promised breakthroughs in the development of new therapies.
Foundation research achievements include the findings of its grant recipients who have made noteworthy contributions over the years. Foundation grants have supported increasingly sophisticated projects as cancer management has evolved from single agent and combination chemotherapy to the emerging developments in molecular medicine and targeted therapies with the potential to accelerate progress. As science probes the secrets of the cell, cures of various types of cancer are imminent. The Chemotherapy Foundation continues its key role in supporting the best scientists, physicians and educators, those best positioned to use modern science to defeat an ancient enemy.
The Foundation's research and professional education programs are widely recognized in the field for their significant contribution to improve patient-care management and survival.
Complimentary educational booklets (click Order from Us) explain advances in diagnostics and therapy and new concepts of comprehensive curative management.
